Cramming Features into a Small Package: the Palm Pixi

The Palm Pixi is the perfect example of how wonderful our technology has come into makings things smaller.  Undoubtedly today, it is easy to produce a really small mobile phone. The real wonder for Palm comes in the fact that it crams so many amazing hardware features into the Pixi. You will wonder where all that mass went off. This is not just any hardware either; the Pixi is a true smart phone in terms of capabilities and features. The hardware contained in the device ranges from the expected to the very impressive; surpassing that of other standard mobile smart phones.
The Specifications of the Palm Pixi
The Palm Pixi supports both 2G and 3G networks. It connects to EDGE, GPRS and HSDPA for web applications. It runs on the Palm WebOS so Palm users should expect something familiar when they use this phone. The device has GPS, Bluetooth and USB which expands the functionality of the Pixi. The face of the device has a 2.6 inch capacitive touch screen display and a full QWERTY keyboard with raised buttons.
It is powered by a Qualcomm MSM7627 600 MHz processor with a built in graphics accelerator. It can also display images, playback video and music files. Lastly, the Pixi has 8GB of internal storage –more than most smart phones.
Smaller Sizes are Better
Recently, the emergence of Lite and Mini devices has made the public wary of devices that are small. They tend to be novelty devices with little to no useful features aside from looking cute and amusing. Fortunately, the Pixi is designed differently. As you can see, the specifications for the Pixi are quite comparable to that of other smart phones; and it is much smaller to. At just a little around 100mm tall, 10mm thick, 55mm wide, and 99 grams the Pixi is both impressively small and light.
Release Date
The tentative release date for the Pixi will be at the end of this year. It will be releasing alongside a lot of other new devices from other manufacturers so it will be interesting to see how the Pixi will fare. Until then, Palm still has a lot of time to add new features into the Pixi. For one, we are interested in knowing what kind of lithium ion battery will be used. Hopefully they make something that is both long lasting and lightweight. Either way, we are all looking forward to the release of the Pixi.
