The Cell Phone of the Future

Back in the earliest days of cellular and mobile phones, most people had gigantic phones [think: Zach Morris on “Saved By The Bell”]. They were tools of the elite. Many of the earliest were actually “car phones,” and required setup in a vehicle to work. Naturally, as is the case with all technology, cellular and mobile phones quickly evolved into something new and different. Because people saw the demand for the car phones and even more portable versions of a phone they could take anywhere they wanted, the modern cellular phone, also known as the mobile phone, came into existence.

There have been many changes to the mobile / cellular phone over the years. The most noticeable is the size, as cellular and mobile phones have gotten significantly smaller as time has gone on. That said, there are myriad other changes that have happened. For starters, the smaller phones have a ton of new features that were not available on older phones, such as photo cameras, custom ringtones, organizers, video cameras, and mp3 players. Some more modern phones even act as small computers, as they can access the Internet, instant messaging programs, and other applications that previously were not available to the average user. This is all clearly very exciting, and it makes you wonder: what does the future hold for mobile and cellular phones?

With phones serving multiple functions already, it is safe to speculate that these pre-existing features will only grow in popularity, causing an increase in functionality. Mobile or cellular users should expect faster Internet connections, as well as more accurate renderings of their favorite Web pages as the technology evolves and develops further. It is also safe to say there will be more widespread wireless access so people are not locked out from accessing the Internet in certain areas.

As MP3s and music become more commonly intertwined with telephones, it will be logical to expect to see phones with a greater capacity for music. The audio presentation will be more clear, and the phones will be able to hold more music – perhaps as much, or more, than the current music player of choice, the iPod.

This is a very exciting time for people who are into technology, as things are advancing rapidly. This is very much so the case with cellular and mobile phones, and while it would be possible to speculate for days as to what the future holds… only time will tell.
