Is There a Future for the LCD Tv?

Plasma TVs might be said to have better image quality when compared against the LCD, but look out for the next generation of LCD TV’s, they’re on the rise.  They will bring brighter colours & an infinite colour ratio to the table thanks to the efforts of Dolby & Sim2.  Their new prototype LCD TV features a high dynamic range which utilizes a backlight unit from Sim2 comprising of 1,838 LEDs, capable of maintaining 1080p resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio. The prototype has been rated at 4,000 cd/m2 in terms of brightness, and has a uniform luminance of 95% throughout the display. According to Dolby, this TV is able to deliver a “picture quality that matches real-world visual perception of depth, detail, and colour.”

This year, Phillips introduced its thinnest 8mm LCD TV.  The LCD is illuminated from top to bottom with high power energy efficient LEDs, so not only is it completely versatile, but it’s planet friendly as well.

This particular television weighs a mere 5 kg.  Just think of how easily it can be moved around to fit all of your viewing needs.  5 kg is approximately 10 times less in weight than a regular television, so it can virtually be placed anywhere, even on your walls.

The relatively low cost of LCD television has allowed huge advances to be made, as seen n the example above).  Manufacturers have managed to reduce the size, weight and cost whilst improving display and resolution. More recently, vendors have made a move into the HD field with many of the LCD television sets being sold as 'HD Ready'.

Today you will find that the market is flooded with cheap LCD TVs, but as a consumer, you must do your homework & don’t just buy based on price.  It is essential to consider important things such as picture quality, contrast ratio, image resolution, brand awareness, viewing angle, customer service and price.

So, it looks like LCD TVs are going to be around for a little while longer, maybe even a lot longer. The technology, although dated in concept, is mature enough for manufacturers to start pushing to the boundaries of viewing.  New advancements are being made each day, so stay tuned!
