Laptop sleeves are an awesome way to keep your laptop protected from various damage which can occur during day to day usage and transport. They come in so many different colors, styles and designs that they can even be used to express your individuality or used simply as a fashionable item. They combine some great properties in a neat package. They do this while barely adding any extra weight to your laptop, and use up almost no space.
The most common type of laptop sleeve is made from neoprene. This is a very lightweight material which is incredibly rugged for its density. These laptop sleeves are a thin layer which projects your laptop from bumps and scratches and are intended to be either carried or used to carry your laptop in a backpack or other bag. These will have a Velcro, elastic or zippered flap which prevents your laptop falling out. Before purchase, ensure that this flap is of good quality. If your laptop falls out easily, there is not really much point in having a sleeve for it.
The next most popular is the padded laptop sleeve, made from cells of padded foam. This foam is encased with a harder outer casing such as vinyl, which both stops the foam from deteriorating and getting torn. Padded laptop sleeves often have stitching holding the casing to the foam, so it is a good idea to check this for strength and durability before purchase.
Each type comes in a variety of colors and designs, with some having internal or external pockets to carry cables or other small peripherals. They are a great alternative to the traditional, often ugly laptop bag, which are only really necessary if you intend to carry a lot of extra things with you.
